Chika Wali returns to Pune FC

Pune FC have beefed up their defense by signing up Nigerian Chika Wali ahead of the club's campaign in the season-opening Federation Cup football tournament, commencing on Saturday.
The 23-year-old central defender, thus, returns to the club where he began his professional career in 2007-2008 when he was part of its successful qualification to the elite I-League before playing his part when the club ended up third in its debut year (2009-10).
Last season, Chika had played for Chirag United SC which has been re-named this season as Prayag United SC.
"Chika is a strong central defender, who has the experience and is a known player to quite a few players in the line-up," said Pune FC's Head of Operations, Chirag Tanna.
"His experience of playing in Indian conditions for four years at a stretch will come in handy," he added.
The Nigerian's signing improves coach Derrick Pereira's options in the position as he can now choose from among Caitano Costa, Rolling Son Hungyo and newly-signed Anas Edatodika, a club release said.
With Chika's signing, following that of attacking midfielder Douhou Pierre, Pune FC have completed their quota of signing three foreigners this year. Striker Mandjou Keita had already signed at the end of the last season.
"I am happy to get him back after a year. Chika has been a player of the past for Pune FC and his return along with past regulars in Douhou and Jeje Lalpekhlua will help the team to perform
better," explained Pereira.
